Designer's Biography
George Kurzman was born in Washington, D.C. He built his first boats while still a student at Wesleyan University, where he graduated in 1989. From there he moved to Olympia, Washington, where he has continued his boat building career. He worked on the Lady Washington, a full-size tall ship, and he worked with at-risk teens building two, 22' dories, as part of a mental-health program. He re-built a 25' Big Bear sloop, which he cruised several times into British Columbia, and he has produced dozens of small rowing boats, mostly using cedar/epoxy construction. George built his first fabric-skinned boat in 1994, and he started designing the Doriak 32 in 1997. In a temporary structure behind his home-shop, George began construction of the Doriak 32 in 1998. Photos of the Doriak 32 during construction were taken at a workspace in downtown, Olympia. George launched the Doriak 32 on its maiden voyage, over Labor Day weekend, 2003. |
